San Francisco Bay Area Artist Headlines French Languedoc Art Exhibition

Vallejo, California native Marques Vickers will be headlining an exhibition entitled “Voyages” at the Maison Gibert gallery in Lezignan, France. The show, running throughout the month of August features three additional artists, German Friedbert Wittich, Austrian Andreas Gorbach and French Marie-Noelle Berson exhibiting paintings and sculptures with a similar theme. The exhibition opening is scheduled for Friday evening, August 3rd at 6:30 PM and is sponsored by the Chateau la Voulte-Gasparets.

The “Voyages” exhibition is Vicker’s second major French presentation since relocating to the Southern Languedoc region in June of 2005. He will be exhibiting 55 paintings and 2 stand alone sculptures.

“I’ve sectioned my exhibition into five major themes,” explains Vickers, “since the concept of travel may involve a journey within as well as an external destination. The paintings represent a voyage of my own artistic and stylistic evolution.”

“I’m quite excited to expose my work once again to the region and the numerous friends and acquaintances I have made in the region. As one of the few Americans residing in the Corbieres region of the Languedoc, my two years of residency have been an incredible experience. The warmth and beauty of this Midi region of France is incredible. It is an ideal environment for creativity and people of the region show a great respect towards artists in general...myself in particular.”

Vickers, born and raised in Vallejo, California (20 miles north of San Francisco) is a contemporary artist specializing in the female form and particularly in dance figures. A graduate of Azusa Pacific University in Los Angeles, Vickers is the author of the book “Marketing and Buying Art Online” (2005, Allworth Publishing, New York City). He is currently completing a second book on the region entitled “An American in the French Languedoc” (www.AmericanLanguedoc.com) based on his present life in rural southern France.
